The point here isn’t about hungry horses – it is about the allocation and distribution of responsibilities. If one person responsible = one person is wholly and solely accountable. If two people are responsible, the responsibility is shared 50/50 and so on, so that the more people responsible, the less accountable they feel for ensuring the requirement is fulfilled or completed.
So when allocating responsibilities for Quality Management System (QMS) requirements (eg Corrective Actions) always ensure one person is appointed with primary ownership for the action/delivery of responsibility requirements.
Today’s Quality Quote is from William Edwards Deming – “Without data, you are just another person with an opinion”.
This statement is so true – quantitative data is key to determining performance against established Quality Objectives and determining the effectiveness of the organisation’s ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
But also true is the reverse of this concept as documented HERE which is a fantastic article that points out that “Without an opinion, you’re just another person with data”.
In light of the abundance of data in some sectors ie big data, without a system for interpreting the data, undertaking statistical analysis to identify trends and develop conclusions, you cannot form an opinion and all you have is the data.
I suppose the point of this is you need both data and opinion.
