Can ISO Auditors Also Provide Consultancy?

Auditor independence is one of the foundations of credible certification. When the same party both advises an organisation and audits it, a conflict of interest arises that can lead to errors, blind spots and audit deficiencies. The auditor effectively ends up reviewing their own work.

This is exactly why ISO certification separates the roles. Your consultant designs and helps implement the management system, while certification is carried out by an independent, JAS-ANZ accredited certification body. Keeping those roles distinct is what gives a certificate its value and protects everyone who relies on it.

The same principle applies internally: robust, objective internal auditing, carried out by someone genuinely independent of the area being audited, is how you find issues before an external auditor (or a customer) does.
